Religious Education – “Teaching the Good News”
The Parish continues the mission of Jesus Christ to bring about God’s kingdom by offering families opportunities to grow in faith. The Parish Religious Education programs are grades 1-8, help bring about God’s kingdom by proclaiming and teaching God’s word, celebrating the sacraments and placing value on service to all people. Our Parish Religious Education Programs go forward in the light of the risen Christ, energized by the love of the Holy Spirit, drawing creativity from the power of the Father.
Religious Education Goals
“Since the Christian vocation is a call to transform oneself and society with God’s help” & “call to proclaim the Good News to the poor, freedom to the oppressed and joy to the afflicted”, the catechetical ministry of the Church becomes a vital channel through which the “ Church fulfills its commitment to the dignity of persons and building of community” (from To Teach as Jesus Did and Justice In the World.)
St. Augustine Parish seeks to create and maintain community by:
- providing both the conditions and the setting for faith commitment and personal growth,
- proclaiming the message of the Lord Jesus Christ, authentically and fully,
- growing in awareness of the relationship to those who have been reborn in Baptism – to build a Christian community,
- building a community of loving trusting and accepting individuals that leads to service.
These goals can be achieved when the Parish Family works and prays together. Formal Religious Education classes begin in the first grade. Parents should contact the Religious Education Office regarding registration the June before their child enters first grade. Communion preparation is a two-year program; a child must attend first and second grade to receive Communion in May of the second grade.
